How Shifting Priorities Can Lead to a Career Change
When your job demands so much of your time that you barely see your loved ones, it’s natural to reevaluate your career. This article reflects on how career choices that once felt fulfilling can start to feel draining as our priorities shift. By sharing a client’s story, it highlights the importance of reassessing your career path when your needs and desires evolve, and the value of seeking a career that allows both success and personal happiness.
☀️🍳 "I just want to have breakfast with my husband."
A client recently shared this as the reason she wanted to switch careers. She currently works in an industry with a fluctuating schedule and is always on call, leaving her with little time to spend with her husband. In fact, there are entire days when they don’t even see each other. At one time, she was proud to have a job that demanded so much of her.
The sense of importance and status it gave her felt rewarding. But now, she feels the weight of exhaustion—long hours and no real downtime. Together, we’re exploring new career paths that match or exceed her current pay and provide the status she values, but also allow her the time and freedom to enjoy life’s simplest moments—like having breakfast with the person she loves. It’s common for my clients to reach a turning point where they realize their job no longer aligns with who they’ve become. Their priorities have shifted. What once felt right has evolved.
If you’re at this stage, it’s easy to question your past career choices. But it’s important to remember that you were a different person when you made those decisions. Just like the clothes you wore in high school no longer reflect your style today, the career that suited the old you may no longer fit the person you are now. If you’ve been thinking about a career change or feel like your current role no longer fits, let’s talk. Sometimes all it takes is a conversation to start finding a path that aligns with the life you want today. Send me a message, and let’s explore your next step together.
